Morning Readers & I hope you’re having a wonderful Sunday!
We are easing into fall and I am fully embracing the slower pace. The Airbnb is winding down (just 3 more guests!) and I’ve been very intentional in my slower mornings. Candles, coffee and yoga have been staunch supports over the past couple of weeks as my sisters and I orient ourselves to best support my mother in her chemo journey. Reading of course has also maintained its position in stress relief and escapism, and having said that, I am so happy that I picked up Wild Reverence when I did. After a summer filled with enough near-misses, August finally turned the corner with a couple books I really enjoyed!
Matilda is the youngest goddess of her clan, born in the firelit under realm and blessed with humble messenger magic. Ten years ago, a mortal boy named Vincent wrote to the goddess he befriended in dreams, begging for help on the darkest night of his life; when she never answered, he hardened into a cynical mortal man, the Lord of Wyndrift. Now Matilda comes tumbling through his bedroom window with a letter for him, and fate pulls them back together.

I loved the new pantheon of fictional gods (I mean, aren’t they all technically?) and Rebecca’s world building. With a slight lull towards the middle, the plot is fairly fast paced, and the dynamics between gods and worship is intriguing. A fresh plot, solid characters and an interesting writing style really sold me.
Unfortunately, I did find the ending to be somewhat forgettable. Of course the author set this novel up as a stand alone prequel, so threads could not be left loose. I usually tend towards endings that wreck me, while this one went for quiet contentment instead, but it still worked worked.
I’m experimenting with a new template, how is everyone feeling about this new carousel? What information do you look for when choosing a new book?
