Morning Readers & Happy Wednesday!
This is going to be a super busy week as I wrap up an amazing month of reading, but also wrap up my final assignment for this semester. I am so excited to be winding down my studies and am looking forward to a cozy winter of reading in the off-hours.
Next up is a book that got a lot of hype when it first came out and I’m not even ashamed to say, I jumped on the band wagon almost instantly.
In a war-torn world of necromancy and alchemy, Helena Marino, a healer within the resistance, awakens in captivity with no memory of the final days of the conflict. As she tries to piece together her past, Helena struggles to find those she can trust and is drawn into a web of power, betrayal, and forbidden science where alchemy blurs the line between creation and destruction.
I feel like there are a lot of mixed emotions on this one and I seem to land somewhere in the middle of it. While I didn’t get the epic love-story-political-tension hype, I did enjoy listening to it. Although, the Audible version is 36 hours long and took me 37 days to finish it. Honestly it could have been shorter as the characters were just kind of ok for me, and the added length didn’t really create any more attachment to their story. I think my favorite character was actually the pet, Amaris.
However, I did really enjoy the world building and the author’s take on ‘magic’. I love a ‘realistic’ fantasy and this definitely hit the mark on that one.

Ultimately I enjoyed listening to this book, but just feel like it could have been shorter. It was a cute read, but not revolutionary and I don’t feel like I necessarily need a ‘shelf-trophy’.
