Colors of the Dark by Chris Whitaker

Morning Readers & I hope you all had a great week and are easing into the weekend on this Friday!
This week was been a little turbulent for me, so while school and classes have restarted and I dive into my interviews for Master Gardener, my reading took a bit of a backseat.

All the Colors of the Dark starts in the Ozarks in the 1970s and follows three kids, Patch, Saint and Misty as their lives are shaped by a violent crime. The novel tracks them into adulthood, in Patch’s hunt for a girl he trauma-bound with, or at least the idea of one.
While I admired the scope of the story and how the characters lives and relationships continue to twine and overlap over time, I found it slower than expected and sometimes weighed down by its length. I didn’t sense any ‘thrill’ and it all felt a little flat, while I did appreciate the idea of the plot, overall it was just kind of ok and hype just didn’t add up for me.

For readers who enjoy sprawling, character-driven novels this one may hit the mark, but it wasn’t quite the right fit for me.
What read are you currently loving?
