What I Read this Month; June 2025

Morning Readers, I hope you all had a great June!

This was honestly an amazing month of reading! At some points it nearly got a little overwhelming, there were a lot of heavy hitters emotionally. Ultimately though, I really enjoyed the books this month and definitely found some new favorites I will absolutely not shut up about for years to come!

Maid by Stephanie Land

Shelf Worthy- 4/5 Stars

Following the story of a single mother and maid, trying to make it through broken relationships, poverty and social stigmas. Ultimately this book gives the hope that no matter the struggles we may go through in life, we can strive to change that with each step we take, whether it’s a small step in the right direction, or a complete leap of faith.

Blood of the Old Kings by Sung-Il Kim

Shelf Worthy4/5 Stars

An original storyline as a dragon warrior, a sorcerer and natural-born leader fight against a corrupt empire that sources it’s energy from harvested sorcerers. It almost reads a little ‘Witcher’ meets Dota, but I think I might like it even more than the Fourth Wing series. *le gasp*

Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf

Shelf Worthy- 4/5 Stars

This book follows a string of characters over the course of 24 hours in post-WW1 London. If you’re a lover of the classics, or looking for one to dip your toes into the pond with, I would definitely recommend this one. It will absolutely end up being one of those leatherbound classics that finds it’s way onto my shelf!

Yellowface by R. F. Kuang

Shelf Worthy- 4/5 Stars

June Hayward steals a friends literary work, post-deadly accident, and passes it off as her own. As a newcomer to the book community, this book had me asking “Who is this author?!” The internal dialogue is absolutely riveting, the story line original; the book not only takes hard hits at racism, social media, cultural appropriation and the book industry at large, but Ms. Kuang leads as an internal discussion, leaving room for the reader to come to terms with these hard hitters in their own space. A book that will leave you with a new perspective.

The Wedding People by Alison Espach

Shelf Worthy- 4/5 Stars!

Phoebe is newly single, checking into a hotel & mistaken for a wedding guest. I cried reading this book. On the floor, with a blanket cried. There were so many lines that hit so close to home, it is absolutely worth the read!

Betty by Tiffany McDaniel

Hard-Cover Worthy- 5/5 Stars!

Betty narrates her family history, from 1909 up to 1973. You will walk away from this book with emotional trauma. You have been warned. Having said that, I can’t recommend the Audible version of this book enough!

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

Hard-Cover Worthy- 5/5 Stars!

Nora reads through each life she might have lived while caught between life and death. Similar to the butterfly-effect, how can one small decision change the trajectory of your life? This book looks to life as infinite possibility in the face of meaninglessness and despair and challenges how we measure success and happiness in our lives.

Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt

Kindle Worthy- 3/5 Stars!

A story of about a cast of characters finding each other and an octopus helping to connect them all. It was a little predictable, but in a heart warming, easy weekend read kind of a way. I say 3 stars only because I don’t think I would necessarily need it as a physical copy, but it was genuinely a worthwhile read on my kindle.

Accidentally On Purpose by Kristen Kish

Shelf Worthy- 5/5 Stars!

I didn’t even know Kristen’s name, I just recognized her as the host of Iron Chef. 1 hour in and I was already floored. Hands on desk, lean the heck back. Who is this woman that I have watched for years and never realized?!? If half the people in this world had half the grace, self-awareness and love put forth in this book, the world would be that much better a place.

With everything going on in the world lately, I hope you find the time and space to be able to relax, tune out & pick up a good book!
