As much as I believe you can truly find yourself in a good book, I also believe it’s important to take a look around at the world around you too.
I’ve always told my daughter ‘You are what you eat’
ie. what you consume through your five senses.
You are what you choose to read, to listen to, to watch and to engage with, and each of those things in turn affects you, your perspective and how you relate to others and the world around you. You need to diversify your diet, try new things, experience life. We are not made to be flat and one-dimensional. I believe we are made to be multi-faceted, curious and joyful, each to our own varying degrees.
So let’s get personal, this is me outside of my books! What peaks my interest, what sets a spark of momentary passion or can send me down an endless rabbit hole. Here’s what I found gave me the greatest curiosity, joy or new perspective this month that I’d love to share with you, this is me Off-Script!
- Roots One Collection
I’ve been looking for a home ‘uniform’, something comfortable and sustainable, that doesn’t scream ‘pajamas’ and I can still pop out to the grocery store looking reasonably put together. Inspired by Mia Maples matching sweatsuit obsession, I found the Roots One Collection and the set is perfect, and on sale! - Book Blitz
Ok, I know I just said this was me ‘off the books’ but this idea is genius and I actually love it! A great way to get to know authors and maybe a few new book recommendations in the process!
3. Frieren on Amazon Prime
When my daughter was young she went through an Anime phase. This meant making it part of our nightly routine and watching Naruto or Inuyasha pretty much everyday for literal years. I think it might have worn off on me a bit, because this cute, fantasy cartoon found its way onto my watch list & honestly, while yes I do feel slightly silly binging episodes as a 34-year old woman, I’m not entirely mad about it.
4. Leila Hormonzi- Don’t try to ‘rebrand’ yourself
For most of my 20’s, aside from my daughter, social media occupied much if not most of my time. Fueled by a modestly (not) ‘successful’ following I was drawn into this idea that you had to be the brand. Each phase of my life needed to be rebranded and the image refined, maybe that’s why Leila’s take resonated with me. You don’t need to rebrand, you need to do the work.
5. Mid-Year TBR Crisis
This is exactly what it sounds like. In the past couple months there have been a lot of life changes that have just flat-out knocked me on my ass. What’s been keeping me sane has been tuning the world out and reading, so I thought I’d organize my TBR. Both books To Be Read & those I’ve already read, To Be Reviewed. With an overall goal of 100 books by the end of the year, I’m hoping to be up to the challenge!
