Morning Readers & Happy Friday!
I hope you all had a great week and are settling down into an easy weekend filled with moments of good books & good wine!
This past week has honestly been a bit emotionally overwhelming, of course there’s my personal life I’ve eluded to, but the books I’ve seemingly picked up on a whim have also been so emotionally stimulating (Betty, Mrs. Dalloway, The Wedding People) and directly relatable, that I’ve often been left raw & exhausted. There are only so many heartbreaks you can experience in real life while simultaneously reading about them as well. Que Korean Fantasy & Dragons.
I feel like this genre is maybe making a bit of a resurgence after Eragon, Reign of Fire, How to Train Your Dragon, and Fourth Wing and I am so there for it! This one did read a little ‘Witcher’ meets ‘Dota‘ around the edges ie. warrior makes a pact with a dragon & shapeshifts, while an apprentice sorcerer emerges, an old sorcerer turned evil trying to take over the world, and the inclusion of another, separate, ‘royal-not-royal’ leading-character. That’s really where the similarities end though, just some vague character stereotypes.
The rest of the storyline is amazing, original, and I can’t help but feel like there’s maaaybe some political undertone? Just me?
I actually almost love it more than the ‘Fourth Wing’ series if I’m being honest and if the first book is anything to go on. There is a second book coming out later this year and it is absolutely on my TBR.
Quick tangent, I would like to note that I got this as my annual free book from my Kobo Plus Membership, and the customer service (Shout out to Vincent!) trying to sort out the lost code was absolutely amazing! I’ve been predominantly working through Kindle and Google Playbooks up until this point but with membership discounts through Kobo, Google Cashback, plus Rakuten points to go against future book purchases, I just had to make the switch and can’t wait to see if it pays off!
Looking forward to reporting on savings at the end of the year and sharing the best books at the best prices with you! Happy Reading!
