Yellowface by R. F. Kuang

Hey All, & Happy Monday!
I hope you had a great weekend and managed to sneak in a few minutes of down time & a couple pages of a good book. I did manage to finish this one here and I have to say, as I’m easing back into reading more regularly I am constantly astounded at the impact and truth a well-written fiction novel can deliver . They can teach lessons, share experiences and truly draw you in and change your perspective if you let them. Kuang does an amazing job of this, and really highlights so many view points on so many issues. I especially appreciated her varied approach to the obvious subject of racism, it was such a unique take and presentation style.
What I loved most is while she leads the internal dialogue of the character she still leaves room for self-discovery on the part of the reader, she does an excellent job at playing devil’s advocate in a very subtle, cheeky way.
To sum up a brief review, if there was ever a Netflix adaptation that would have me reconsidering a subscription, I have to say, it would be this one. On top of that, I would even consider this to be an excellent classroom or book club read, there is so much to dissect and so much conversation to be had around this book. Needless to say her other book, Babel, has also come highly recommended and made it’s way onto my wishlist and I can’t wait!
Happy Reading!
