Morning Readers & Happy Thursday!

Shelf Worthy!

This book was a recommend by a coworker just as I was about to quit my bartending job, unknowingly loose my office job, and step into an new career shift much sooner than I had anticipated.

Maybe this book was a little more tough-love than I was ready for when I was already at a point in my life that I felt like I was ‘the problem’, I didn’t need a book to reaffirm this for me, and as an audiobook it ‘read’ a little flat. I found myself tuning out to the slight monotone, and having to listen to it a second time with more breaks in between to try and absorb what was being said. Ultimately, it’s when I went back to type out my notes & quotes when it really hit. Visually reading it back to myself, it somehow made more sense. It might actually be the one audiobook I’ve listened to that may read better as an actual book. I’d almost suggest doing both if you have the time.

Writing these particular quotes back to myself, the book makes more and more sense:

Your mountain requires you to reconcile two parts of you. The conscious and the unconscious, the part of you that is aware of what you want and the part of you that is not aware of why you are still holding yourself back”…” Your Mountain is the block between you and the life you want to live…. you are here because a trigger showed you to your wound, and your wound will show you to your path, and your path will show you to your destiny…. your old self can no longer sustain the life you are trying to lead.”

“The first step in healing is taking full accountability…It does not matter what your life looks like on the outside, it is how you feel about it on the inside. It is not ok to be constantly stressed, panicked and unhappy. Something is wrong and the longer you try to love yourself out of realizing this, the longer you are going to suffer. The greatest act of self love is to no longer accept a life you are unhappy with.”

“You must first and foremost get out of denial and into clarity about what’s really wrong. At this point you have a choice, you can make peace with that fact or you can commit to changing it. The lingering is what is keeping you stuck”

“If you really want to change your life, let yourself be consumed with rage, not with others, not with the world, but with yourself. get angry, determined … that you will not go on as you are.”

“We often face resistance in the face of what’s going right in our lives not what’s going wrong… when we have something to enjoy, create or build, we are tapping into a part of ourselves that is trying to thrive instead of just survive and the unfamiliarity can be daunting… Resistance is your way of slowing down and making sure that it’s safe to get attached to new and important”

“Your life is ultimately measured by your outcomes, not your intentions. It is not about what you wanted to do, or would have done but didn’t have the time, its not about about why you thought you couldn’t, its just whether or not you eventually did…when we have a goal, dream or plan, there is no measure of intent. It is only whether your did it or did not, any other reason you offer for not showing up and doing the work is simply you stating that you prioritized that reason over your ultimate ambition.”

Having read it twice, and an additional review of my (many) bookmarked quotes this one is definitely worth the read and/or listen. I think there’s some hard truths we all need to hear and come to terms with.

As always, purchasing through the links here in this post help support the blog, and help me share a piece of my weekend with you, hopefully making yours a little better too, Happy Reading All!
